SUMMARY:ADVOCATING FOR URBAN BIODIVERSITY
DESCRIPTION:From Bushlands to the Ballots: Talking with candidates where and when it counts \nThe recording\, presentation and useful resources from our webinar are now available online. \nGo to our YouTube channel for the recording. \n\n  \nYou can find the presentation here; and the Nature Election Asks flyer\, Save the Black Cockatoo flyer\, Nature Priorities Scorecard at this link \nBackground \nThe 2025 WA State Election is imminent. Candidate nominations closed on 13 February and now it possible to get the full list of candidates for each electorate. It is vital that these candidates know that protection of the environment is important to our communities and that it deserves a greater priority than it has received from the current government. \nHow you can help\nUBC encourages you to invite your local candidates to your patch; explain why you are passionate about it and how they can help secure the future of your patch as well as nature more broadly. Our black cockatoos\, our urban bushlands and wetlands all need more protection to survive. We have worked closely with CCWA to develop a number of nature specific election priorities\, and we want to share them with you and ask you to help spread the word. \nEvent details \nThank you to everyone who registered for this event on Tuesday 18 February. We learnt how you can influence candidates in our State election to recognise that our natural environment needs to have a greater priority in their campaigns and after the election. We stepped you through finding the candidates for your electorate and briefed you on 7 Nature related priorities we have identified. We have also created a scorecard that you can use to frame your questioning of candidates. \nUseful Resources \nWe will have flyers\, yard signs and a scorecard template available.  They will be available as printed materials from CCWA  or online. You can also download the report A Protection Agenda for Nature.

SUMMARY:Protecting places we love
DESCRIPTION:2024 has been a difficult year for protecting our environment\, the patches that we love so well.  In the next week we expect that changes to the Environmental Protection Act will sail through the WA Parliament. We believe they will affect the independence of the EPA and take away some of our right to have a say . \nThere is a silver lining. In the face of this challenge the community conservation sector has formed a strong alliance under the leadership of the Conservation Council WA and together we have developed a blueprint for positive reform for better protection of the environment.  We will launch this at the CCWA Annual Conference in mid November. \nIt is clear that we need to create a groundswell of change in our communities to protect those natural places that we love. \nWe can protect our patch\, but how do we make sure that the bush or wetland or coastal strip or river edge ‘over there’ is not lost. We need to extend our care to those patches as well. \nCollectively\, we have the voices\, the people passionate about their patch\, their cause. \nCome along and help us work out ways that we can change the stories around biodiversity loss through our own actions. \nConnect with like-minded conservationists and leave with some new ideas. \nYour presenters \n\nChristine Richardson\, Chairperson UBC\nColma Keating\, UBC and member of WA Landcarer’s Hall of Fame\nRhiannon Hardwick\, Program Manager for CCWA’s Nature Program\n\nJOIN US\nJoin us on Wednesday 23 October at City West Lotteries House at 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. We will open the doors to the Conference Room at 6:00 pm and serve light refreshments. \nPlease let us know that you are coming along. You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au. If you can’t make it to West Perth\, you can join us online via Zoom. SUMMARY:Julian Bolleter: Natural Density
DESCRIPTION:Medium density – liveable neighbourhoods – protection for urban bushland and species within. How can we have it all? \nIntroducing our Guest Speaker\nJulian Bolleter is the Director of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC) at the University of Western Australia\, the Program Director of AUDRC’s Master of Urban Design course\, and an author and public figure. \nJulian completed his PhD concerning landscape architecture in Dubai and has published five books\, ‘Made in Australia: The future of Australian cities’ (with Richard Weller)\, ‘Take me to the River: A history of Perth’s foreshore\,’ ‘Scavenging the Suburbs\,’ ‘The Ghost Cities of Australia\,’ and ‘Desert paradises: Surveying the landscapes of Dubai’s urban model.’ \nJulian’s current research focuses on the big issues facing Australian cities. \nOne of these is an ambitious climate adaptation project\, ‘Future climate\, future home: adaptive urban design strategies for WA’ with AUDRC partner organisations Development WA\, the Department of Communities\, the Western Australian Planning Commission\, and multiple Local Governments. \nYou can find out more about Julian’s work in The Conversation and on the Constructive Voices platform \nThe Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC)\nAUDRC has an overarching vision to be a centre of excellence for the design and planning of cities including urban planning and design issues affecting the shape\, sustainability and liveability of our cities. This requires systems thinking\, big-data analysis\, ecological services\, spatial analysis\, design theory and their integrated application. \nYou can find AUDRC’s Current Research Projects here.  They include: \n\nNatural density – what type of natural experience should we provide in areas that are becoming increasingly built up? The survey was promoted widely amongst the conservation network. You may have completed  it earlier this year.\nFuture climate\, future home: adaptive urban design strategies for WA – How climate ready are WA’s cities and towns?\nAccounting for carbon in the planning of residential neighbourhoods – How do we build low-carbon neighbourhoods.\n\nWe welcome Julian to the Urban Bushland Council to speak about how we can reconcile the protection of our urban bushlands and wetlands with increasing urban densification in Perth’s middle ring suburbs. \nJOIN US\nJoin us on Wednesday 11 September at City West Lotteries House at 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. SUMMARY:Friends of Erindale Rd Bushland Talk
DESCRIPTION:Marie Giorgi and Sonya Elek have learned the importance of having a detailed strategy to create and maintain an effective campaign to save an important remnant Banksia woodland in Hamersley.  \nPresentation Now Available\nWe now have Marie and Sonya’s outstanding presentation on Saving Erindale Road Bushland on our website.  Admire the sustained advocacy they have shown in their campaign to save an important remnant Banksia woodland in Hamersley. \nAbout the Campaign\nAs foundation members of the Friends of Erindale Rd Bushland (FoERB)\, they and other members are facing a familiar story – their local bushland is proposed to be replaced by housing development – areas of Threatened Ecological Community are seemingly not exempt\, significant and highly sought after Banksia and Tuart woodland\, habitat areas for the threatened Carnaby Cockatoos and other local native fauna.   \n \nPatches where there are endangered plants and wildlife\, are part of the Banksia woodland threatened ecological community on the Swan Coastal Plain need our loud voices to make the community and Government aware of the continual threat of degradation and development.  \nMarie and Sonya have met many like-minded people along the way. With a strong committed group\, meetings have been held with local and State decision makers\, and have the support of the City of Stirling – a relationship conservation groups encourage in the pursuit of protecting our endangered communities.   \nIn the Autumn 2022 UBT Friends of Erindale Rd Bushland wrote a piece on tips for writing articles to the editor. The Autumn 2024 UBT  describes their experience in creating petitions to Parliament.  \nUBC will follow up this presentation with an advocacy skills workshop for Bushcare groups on 23rd June!   \nSet aside Wednesday\, 5 June to be inspired by Marie and Sonya’s campaigning experience and how to put a spotlight on threats to our bushland. \nDoors open from 6pm\, feel free to email us if you’d like a zoom link.

SUMMARY:Lightning Swamp Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come along to our walk at Lightning Swamp. This is the largest bushland reserve managed by the City of Bayswater in conjunction with Friends of Lightning Swamp.  \n \nLightning Swamp comprises a seasonal wetland\, damplands and a perched wetland which support a higher diversity of aquatic and fringing vegetation in comparison to permanent wetlands. The site provides habitat to at least seven endemic frog species within the wetlands and riparian zones. It is a glorious refuge of biodiversity with over 170 unique species of flora \nNellie Gay from Friends of Lightning Swamp has offered to guide us through what she treasures here. The walk will be followed by a cuppa and chat on what Friends of Lightning Swamp has achieved and what else they might like to see. \nRegister Now\nSee registration below\, places are limited to 30.

SUMMARY:Expanding nature and tree canopy
DESCRIPTION:Urban Greening\nThe State Government is developing an urban greening strategy to help make Perth and Peel greener\, cooler and more liveable into the future. This strategy is expected to be finalised by the end of 2024. The Strategy will be developed based on the best available evidence and international best practices as well as acknowledging the work of local government and other existing urban greening initiatives. An URBAN GREENING SURVEY has been developed to receive community input. \nWhilst the Urban Bushland Council (UBC) is pleased to see the WA Government focussing on ‘Urban Greening’ we are most concerned about specific aspects of the current plan and problematic omissions. The ecological and wellbeing benefits of ‘tree canopy’ and ‘ecological linkages’ cannot be created in isolations of our natural areas. \nInformation Session 10 April\nThanks to all who joined us our information session on 10 April about the benefits of canopy cover\, nature nearby & having your voice heard…. \nUBC in collaboration with WA Tree Canopy Advocates (WATCA)\, Wetlands Conservation Society (WCS)\, Wildflower Society of WA (WSWA) and Birdlife WA (BWA) made presentations on their perspectives of the importance of urban greening. \nWe are now preparing a guide to help you complete the survey about the ‘Perth & Peel Urban Greening Strategy’. This will be available by 25 April (Anzac Day). \nWe suggest that you wait for our guidance before completing the survey. It is important that the government is reminded of the importance of retaining and managing well our natural areas \nWatch Again\nWe have now uploaded the recording from our online information session on Wednesday 10 April.  You can find it here.  https://youtu.be/qe7_CPbVQWs

SUMMARY:Limestone Karst Ecosystems and Honeymyrtle Shrubland
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about this TEC\nOur scholars are coming together for a day to share their lifetimes’ knowledge of one of Perth natural coastal wonders\, Karst limestone ecosystems and Honey Myrtle Shrublands of the Swan Coastal Plain.  Federally listed in November 2023 as critically endangered\, it is up to all of us to know these remnants\, advocate for their preservation and restore their biodiversity. They are our natural inheritance.   \nSo where are they found\, who’s been looking out for them?  Coastal limestone hills and ridges are embedded with colourful stories handed down through Aboriginal generations. As freshwater travels from the Perth escarpment to the ocean\, weaving a course above and below the ground creating wetlands and springs along the way\, filling Gnamma holes in the coastal limestone\, it sustains a unique biodiversity of plants and animals as it goes.   \nWhat are the challenges of caring for them and what does ecological restoration look like.  Restoring these landscapes\, restores the stories and connections of this unique culture.  When we bring back plant diversity\, the animals can return if given the space and corridors.   \nPresentations from the Symposium\nWe have collected together most of the presentations from our March symposium. \n\nCultural introduction to Honeymyrtle Shrublands Symposium – Iva Hayward Jackson – LINK\nThe Pleistocene Tamala Limestone in coastal WA – fossilised sand dunes\, karst and cycles of climate change – Ken McNamara – LINK\nBanksia sessilis – the forgotten food- Will Stock – LINK\nTuart\, Redheart (E decipiens)\, Fremantle mallee (E foecunda)\, Spidernet Grevillea and Parrto Bush (B sessilis) – Hans Lambers – LINK\nConserve or Restore? – Kingsley Dixon & Michael Just = LINK\nManning Park – Bush Forever – Cate Tauss – LINK\n\nPlus a series of talks from Friends groups with Honeymyrtle shrublands on their patch  \n\n\n\nFriends of Mosman Park Bushland – Sue Conlan – LINK\nFriends of Manning Park Ridge – Robyn Colledge – LINK\nConservation and bushcare opportunities at Manning Park – Eddy Wajon – LINK\n\n\n\nWhat is Honeymyrtle Shrubland?\nHoneymyrtle shrubland is the assemblage of plants\, animals and other organisms associated with a type of warm temperate shrubland or heath\, dominated by Melaleuca huegelii (chenille honeymyrtle)\, M. systena (coastal honeymyrtle)\, and/or Banksia sessilis (parrot bush). It only occurs on the slopes and tops of limestone ridges on the Swan Coastal Plain.  You can read all about it in the Federal Approved Conservation Advice which includes a species list. \n \nPhotos provided by Cate Tauss \nSome of our Friends groups have this TEC including Friends of Mosman Park Bushland and Friends of Manning Park Ridge \nEvent Information\nThis Symposium was held on Sunday 17 March from 9:30 am. Ticket price includes morning and afternoon tea and a light lunch. Find the PROGRAM HERE. \nWe are grateful for the support from the Wildflower Society of Western Australia\, Perth NRM and the Manning Park Conservation Society\,

SUMMARY:Two Way Science in your Bushland
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS TWO WAY SCIENCE? AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?\nStudent Learning in your bushland \nAs members of Friends groups we all know the importance of immersing children in bushland. And we are also keen to develop relationships with schools and share our patches with their students.  Being ‘on country’ is also a powerful way of embedding respect for Aboriginal cultures. This is the essence of two way science. \nSo what does a First Nations perspective look like? How do we practice two-way science? Where are the hooks in the curriculum that means bringing school children into our patches is worth the administrative burden for teachers? \nCome along and find out about two way science from one of the Western Australia’s pioneers of this way of learning.  This is an opportunity to have ‘education talk’ demystified and work out how you might engage with your local school. (Photos: Ashe Murray)  \nWe will ask our guest speaker the following questions: \n\nWhat is two way science? What works best with children?\nHow can we use our bushland to practice two-way science with school students; and how can we involve Aboriginal educators\nWhat are curriculum elaborations and will understanding them help us develop that relationship with our local school?\n\nMEET OUR PRESENTER – DR ELAINE LEWIS\nDr Elaine Lewis is Cross Curriculum Leader and Senior Teacher at Coolbinia Primary School. She is also their River Rangers Instructor and Roots and Shoots Coordinator. Coolbinia Primary School has about 2 ha of bushland on the school site\, and that bushland is their outdoor classroom. Elaine is a great innovator and leader at this school and their work in sustainability has been recognised by many awards as well as being featured in the WA Government’s sustainability framework “Caring for Country Together”. \nAlongside David Broun (now with CSIRO) & Rita Lusted (WA Department of Education)\, Elaine has piloted the Two Way Science Schools project during 2021 – 22. (Photo: Coolbinia Primary School) \nJOIN US\nJoin us on Thursday 28 September at City West Lotteries House at 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. Please email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au to request the Zoom link. \nAnd just a reminder – we do have some resources for schools here

SUMMARY:Urban Forest Strategy
DESCRIPTION:The Urban Forest Strategy is a WA State Government strategy that our local governments are adopting.  \nWe face many challenges to protect our local biodiversity and yet we also know that keeping nature and functioning ecosystems nearby is paramount for our health\, well-being and prosperity.  Reduced rainfall\, saline aquifers\, smaller gardens\, overhead powerlines\, more hot bricks and roofs are stressing trees making them more prone to disease.   \nThe best way now to connect our fragmented bushland remnants to save species appears to be through streetscape treatments.  The importance of urban forest in developed areas is prompting State and local governments to take steps to improve and manage tree canopy. How can we help?   \nOur panel\nHear from our expert panel\, John Murray\, Streetscape Manager\, City of South Perth\, E/Prof. Hans Lambers from UWA and Dr Jane Chambers from Murdoch University and NatureLink\, for what they see are the biggest challenges\, opportunities and greatest rewards.  How do they think we can achieve healthy\, resilient street trees that create happy cities!  \nJoin us\nJoin us on Tuesday 5 September at 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. We will open the doors to the Conference Room at 6:00 pm and serve light refreshments. \nEvent information\nPlease let us know that you are coming along. You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au. SUMMARY:What are POLYPHAGOUS SHOT HOLE BORERS?
DESCRIPTION:Polyphagous shot hole borers (Euwallacea fornicatus) are small beetles native to Southeast Asia that attack a wide range of plants. They burrow into the trunk\, stems and branches to eventually cause death. Recently the borers have been found in 40% of Perth suburbs and pose a serious threat to our canopy cover and bushland trees. \nThe Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has now introduced a Quarantine Area covering 25 LGAs from Kwinana in the south to Sorrento in the north. \nCome along to the UBC’s next General Meeting on Wednesday 26th July (6pm for 6.30pm) to hear from Kylie Ireland (DBCA) and Dominic Castledine (DPIRD) about these pests and what can be done to stop their spread across the state. Learn about the DPIRD Quarantine system and about the management of infested trees. Read more about PSHB here. \nThis will be an important evening for bushcare groups to pick up tips for early detection of PSHB and protecting their patch. \nJoin us\nJoin us on Wednesday 26 July at 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. We will open the doors to the Conference Room at 6:00 pm and serve light refreshments. \nEvent information \nPlease let us know that you are coming along. You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au. SUMMARY:Greater Brixton Street Wetlands needs you!
DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has reminded us that “The Greater Brixton Street Wetlands (GBSW) are one of the most important wetlands on the Swan Coastal Plain with outstanding biodiversity attributed to the unique geological\, geomorphic and hydrological characteristics”. \nJoin UBC\, Friends of Brixton Street Wetlands and the wider community conservation network to learn more about the negative and far-reaching impacts of the proposed expansion of the Maddington Kenwick Strategic Employment Area (MKSEA). See the details on the City of Gosnells consultation hub.  This plan would have significant adverse impacts for water & hydrology\, buffers\, connectivity\, pollution and livability. Hear from researchers\, consultants and long-time volunteers who have advocated and cared for the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands for decades. You will also learn more about the proposed Yule Brook Regional Park that would link the Darling Scarp\, through the GBSW to the Canning River. (Click here for 2+ minute video clip) \nThen we can work together to write submissions to the City of Gosnells so that they are more aware of the values of this precious natural area. \nJoin Us\nJoin us on Monday 24th July from 6:30 at City West Lotteries House\, 2 Delhi Street\, West Perth. We are close to City West Train Station.  Roadside parking in Delhi Street is available. \nRegister here or send an email to Colma Keating ubc@bushlandperth.org.au and let us know you are coming.

SUMMARY:Building community capacity
DESCRIPTION:TO CARE FOR URBAN BUSHLAND \nProject Update\nHear about our new approach to capacity building for Friends groups\, our trials and tribulations and our successes. Find out where are we now\, what’s coming up and how this project can benefit all our groups. And come along and meet Johanna Riddell\, our project officer. \nThe Project\nFriends groups that are active\, viable and influential are better able to advocate for and protect their bushland. Through this project UBC will help establish new Friends groups for bushland sites where there is no Friends group; work with some Friends groups encountering problems with volunteer recruitment and help groups be more successful through capacity building workshops. What we learn during this process will become a volunteer recruitment and retention plan for our members and beyond. \n \nWe are working with Friends of Wireless Hill\, Friends of Star Swamp Bushland\, Friends of Trigg Bushland\, Friends of Lake Gwelup and Friends of Erindale Road Bushland as well as initiating a friends group for Cottonwood Bushland in Dianella. \nGeneral Meeting\nOur presentation will be preceded by a short General Meeting of the Urban Bushland Council\, commencing at 6:30 pm.  Member Groups will be asked to vote on proposed changes to the Rules (or constitution).  You can find the Agenda and proposed Rule changes here. Member Groups are invited to appoint a proxy if they are unable to attend the meeting. The PROXY  form is here and should be handed to the Secretary prior to the meeting commencing or via email by COB Monday 28 November. \nJoin Us\nJoin us in the Conference Room at City West Lotteries House from 6:00 pm for refreshments. Please let us know that you are coming along.  You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au. SUMMARY:Trigg Bushland - Walk and Bushtucker Talk
DESCRIPTION:About Trigg Bushland\nThis event is now fully subscribed. Email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au to be added to the wait list should places become available.  \nJoin us for a guided walk around Trigg bushland over the unique and ancient parabolic sand dunes\, that have been stabilised by a long process of revegetation. \nFew examples of this type of landform remain within the metropolitan area. The northern rim of the major Trigg parabolic dune borders Karrinyup Road and reaches its eastern extremity just short of the corner with Jeanes Road. The southern rim borders Jeanes Road. The dunes are composed of white Quindalup sands formed within the last 6\,000 years\, during a period of rising and falling sea levels. As these dunes advanced they buried the limestone and yellow sands of the 100\,000 years old Spearwood dune system. In some parts of the reserve\, north of Karrinyup Road for example\, Spearwood sands still occur at the surface. \nSpot the Quandong trees that are scattered in the bushland\, and with Dale Tilbrook\, taste their fruits in various condiments and dishes\, on site! \nAbout Dale\nDale Tilbrook\, a Wardandi Bibbulmun woman\, has spent many years gathering knowledge from her elders. \nDale has been a Swan Valley local since 1998\, when she opened the Maalinup Gallery with her brother Lyall\, offering authentic Aboriginal art\, gifts and souvenirs. Having spent many years gathering knowledge from her elders and other sources\, Dale is often called on to talk about bushtucker\, which she loves presenting and encouraging people to incorporate into their everyday cooking. \nDale says\, “Educating the world about Australian native edibles is an important part of my cultural journey” \nAbout the Event\nCome along and meet the Friends of Trigg Bushland.  Register now!  There are only 30 places available. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the link \nMeet at the south side of St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School – There is parking off Elliott Rd \nThis event is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program.

SUMMARY:Why would younger people join your group
DESCRIPTION:Recruiting and retaining volunteers is a significant challenge being faced by many of our “Friends of” groups. \nAnd yet\, many young people are engaged in volunteering. In Mission Australia’s 2020 survey of young Australians volunteering was reported as one of the three top activities (after sports and about the same as arts activities). Furthermore\, young people are more likely to volunteer informally. And yet\, the environment was the second most important issue for young people in the Mission Australia 2021 Youth Survey. \nMeet Young Volunteers\n \nSo\, to answer some questions we will be inviting a panel of younger people (14-35 yo) to share their actual experiences. \n\nWhat drives them?\nHow could we invite them to join our activities/group?\nWhat are some of their favourite activities?\nWhat skills & experience do they bring? (eg planting\, social media\, finances)\nWhat has worked to maintain connection with a local group?\nHow can groups meet them half-way?\n\nIt will be a terrific opportunity to hear their guidance. You can then ask your burning questions as well as highlight your own experiences. \nJoin Us\nJoin us in the Conference Room at City West Lotteries House from 6:00 pm for refreshments. Please let us know that you are coming along.  You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au \nPhoto by Heidi Hardisty – Lake Claremont bushland rehabilitation volunteering

SUMMARY:Walk Woodvale Waters\, Beenyup Channel
DESCRIPTION:Come and share the joys and vision of a restored Perth treasure. We will be exploring Woodvale Waters and the Beenyup Channel in the Yellagonga Regional Park which feed into the Southern end of Lake Joondalup! \nWoodvale Waters and the Beenyup Channel\nThe wetland system here was a really important place for the Whadjuk Mooro Moort. Bringing back these wetlands to life is bringing culture back to life! Some wildlife remains guarding the remaining bushland. \nEuropeans settlers thought wetlands meant farming all year round and much has been cleared.  The former chicken farm has been the main contributor to nutrient laden waters which weeds have recruited vigorously along the cleared edges with Typha choking  the wetland. \nA newly formed Friends group of two couples started 3 years ago with an idea of giving overworked DBCA staff a hand. That has since turned into grand ideas\, a 4 year grant and the Scouts helping plant and monitor the transformation. This volunteer bushcare group have chosen to restore an important linkage and they will be loooking for supporters. \nIf you look at the NatureLinks Perth map you will see how important this area is for linking areas of native vegetation. The Yellagonga Regional Wetland Park should be a green link to the Swan River via Lake Monger. \nJoin Us\nPlease register below (keep scrolling to the bottom of the page). Meet us on Streeton Promenade\, close to Olsen Ct from 9:15 am. Wear suitable covered shoes and bring your own water bottle if needed. Bring some morning tea for a chat afterwards.

SUMMARY:Linking spaces to save species
DESCRIPTION:Loss\, fragmentation and degradation of habitat are recognised as one of 6 main threats to our biodiversity. So linking spaces saves species.  Come along and find out about what’s new with NatureLink Perth. \nThe team at NatureLink Perth have carried out huge amounts of work researching the most cost effect ecological linkages to save species and ecosystems. Now they have created an interactive platform to enable you to engage with NatureLinks near you\, to make them stronger and help sustain our biodiversity. \nLearn how to use this tool to see how your patch links to others. This could help with your bush regeneration and advocacy strategies. \nThis research gives bushcare groups the science to contest developers and give your council direction to take action to strengthen these ecological linkages. \nFor example\, long undisturbed Underwood Avenue Bushland provides essential connectivity from Kings Park to Bold Park.  And this bushland still has bird species thought to be lost to urban Perth. \nMarg Owen has captured photos in there of Red Capped Robin\, Spotted Pardalote\, Mistletoe Bird\, Western Spinebill and the Striated Pardalote.  These little birds keep the bushland ecosystem healthy. \nMeet our speaker\nCome and listen to Jane Chambers from NatureLink Perth and Murdoch University and learn a new way of thinking about urban biodiversity. Find out how we can all be part of something bigger and better for our flora and fauna. \nDr Jane Chambers is a Senior Lecturer in Aquatic Ecology at Murdoch University and her research interests focus on wetlands\, rivers and estuaries\, primarily in the areas of ecosystem processes\, management and restoration. \nJoin Us\nJoin us in the Conference Room at City West Lotteries House from 6:00 pm for refreshments. \nCovid-19 Information:  We will be complying with the relevant public health orders. So please let us know that you are coming along.  You can either RSVP at the bottom of this page (keep scrolling) or else email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au.  If you do not feel well on the day\, please do not attend. \nAvailable online: If you can’t make it to West Perth\, you can join us online via Zoom. Please email ubc@bushlandperth.org.au to request the Zoom link. \nPhotos by Marg Owen.
