SUMMARY:Walk in Craigie Bushland
DESCRIPTION:What predator proof fencing can do for your bushland!  \nFox/cat and dog fenced Craigie Bushland is a magnificent example of how a bushland can survive\, regenerate and thrive in a climate of two long hot dry years and falling groundwater levels. Read our report from the walk. \n \n Join us to explore regionally significant Bush Forever Site 303 and observe first-hand the positive effect on natural areas of excluding foxes\, cats and dogs and re-introducing native animals.  This is the City of Joondalup’s major conservation area. It was historically degraded by European farming\, waste dumping and predators. \nIt now has 56 ha of predator proof fencing\, is a quenda stronghold and has areas of excellent biodiversity\, intact canopy and ideal leaf litter levels.  Read more on our website.   \nFind out why this bushland was more resilient to the ‘long hot dry of Autumn 2024’ that impacted neighbouring bushlands and the South West of WA.  What can we learn as we advocate for our own local patches of neighbourhood nature?  \nSpecial thanks to generous community conservation guru David Pike for assistance in guiding this walk.  \nLearn the value of inviting your elected members (local/state/federal) to view both Craigie Bushland as well as your local patches. With Local Government Elections coming up (18/10/2025) – invite candidates too!!  \nMeeting place\nMeet outside the gates to the bushland\, behind the Craigie Leisure Centre. \nStay for a cuppa and chat afterwards.  \nGetting there: \n\nUse the Transperth Journey Planner to get to Whitfords  Train Station.  Walk the remaining 1.4 km to our meeting point or catch a bus along Whitfords Ave to the Craigie Leisure Centre.\nParking behind Craigie Leisure Centre. \nCar Pool – let us know via ubc@bushlandperth.org.au if you can provide or need.  We will try and match you up.  DEADLINE: Wed 13/8
