SUMMARY:Lower Helena River guided walk
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided walk with Lower Helena Association and the Urban Bushland Council. \nThe Helena River is a Perth treasure and should be saved for it’s beauty\, ecosystem services and cultural value.  That’s why the Lower Helena Association (LHA) community volunteer bushcare group are busy bringing life back to the lower Helena River for wildlife\, and us. \nSite preparation for revegetation (from Facebook)\nThis section of the Helena River is particularly important as it near the conjunction with the Swan River and can carry lots of run-off into its water. While fully surrounded by urban development\, the Helena River Reserve is a sanctuary for dozens of birds (including endangered black cockatoos)\, water birds\, quenda and reptiles. Areas such this one are continuously under threat of encroachment\, inappropriate use and neglect. This site is brimming with potential!  The birds love what the volunteers are doing and if not too shy\, will show themselves for us. Bring binoculars. \nLower Helena River (from Facebook)\nAccording to scientists\, our freshwater literacy is low. Freshwater is many more times biodiverse than marine water! Although fresh water systems are facing many challenges\, they can be reversed with a good deal of effort. \nSpend 1 ½ hours amongst River Gums with like-minded friends. Find out what’s changed since colonisation! Hear their vision\, commitment and challenges. \nMeet at 9.45am for a 10.00 start at the corner of East and Helena Street\, Guildford. \nImportant information \nEasy public transport options. Only a 10 minute walk from East Guildford Train station. Leave Perth Station at 9.01 am to arrive at 9.32 am in East Guildford\, or leave at 8.59am to arrive at 9.17am. \nParking is limited so carpooling is recommended. \nDress for bushwalking and the weather! The river bank is a small challenge to navigate with most of the walk being relatively flat. \nMorning tea and a chat afterwards. Bring a plate! \nPlaces will be limited so please register here!
