BoorYul-Bah-Bilya (BBB) is the flagship program of Bibbul Ngarma Aboriginal Association (BNAA), an Aboriginal-led environmental charity based in the Perth Hills.
The program’s first plan focuses on the Mandoon Bilya, or Helena River, near Perth.
BBB is all about restoring ecosystems, reinvigorating cultural heritage and reconnecting our communities with rivers.
Most Western Australian rivers are degraded and less than 1% of our major rivers are in pristine or near-pristine condition.
BBB aims to address declining river health through creation of a new type of community catchment plan that is built from the ground up.
BBB is the first program of its kind to consider environmental, social, cultural and economic values in one integrated plan, allowing a better balance between the many values of rivers.
Its grassroots approach ensures local knowledge is embedded throughout and enables community, residents, businesses, schools and government to contribute towards the future vision.
However, BNAA hope to have far-reaching impacts by creating a transferable model that can be applied to any river.

Our guest speaker
BNAA Executive Director, Francesca Flynn, will share the program’s vision and current projects which include the Mandoon Bilya BioBlitz, eDNA sampling, cultural mapping, monitoring of a recently discovered Perth Hills quokka population, and the proposed Mandoon Bilya Regional Riverpark.
