Save Kiara Bushland

An important eco-corridor in Perth’s north eastern suburbs will be cleared to make way for a new residential development despite a two-decade fight to save the bushland.

Over the last 20 years, the Kiara community has fought off plans from the WA Planning Commission, LandCorp and Department of Housing to clear and build on the 13-hectare site.

Over time the Kiara bushland on Bottlebrush Drive has emerged as an important ecological link between other patches of urban bushland, home to dozens of endangered Carnaby cockatoos, pink-and-grey galahs and a small population of quendas.

The last remaining remnants of Banksia Woodlands along the Swan Coastal Plain are considered a threatened ecological community and listed endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Let’s not pave paradise and put up an apartment block. Sacrificing the homes of wildlife is not progress.
