And as we know, the GBSW is an area of enormous biodiversity and fragility that is being impacted by multiple threats – ranging from rubbish dumping and vandalism; fire, climate change and encroaching development. It is cared for by the Friends of Brixton Street Wetlands and the Friends of Alison Baird Reserve.

In really good news in December 2024, WA government announced funding of $1.5 Million to support on-ground conservation work in the Greater Brixton Street Wetlands.  This would assist local community groups and employ an officer to oversee the area, undertake weed control, restoration, biodiversity monitoring, rubbish removal, and improve local signage.

Cat Williams, known to many of us as being with SERCUL, was appointed to the ongoing role of Operations Officer, Conservation.

Hear from  Cat about her plans and the progress being made to care for the GBSW.
